To be honest, the 1.4 changes got me mighty interested in Elementalists. I was thinking of starting one named Sin (or maybe Jecht?) and just having him randomly attack seaside targets with Hurricanes and Holocausts, laying shit to waste, and going to one of the tiny islands to regain the old AP. I was thinking about mixing some Water-elemental stuff in there, because with the innate soak thingy for Elementalists, every water-type skill would buff my Cold soak by one (wheeeeee!) while gimping my fire soak by one (doesn't matter, I have Fire Resistance! BITCH!).
The one problem that I think Elementalists (and, in fact, all Pet Classes) have is that there are very, very few T1 or T2 skills that support what they do. I mean, you max a combat tree on the Eternal Soldier path, you're using that bad boy the rest of the game, right? Doesn't work that way with pet classes; there aren't any lower skills that actually help them do what they do. Once you pick up Wheel of Righteousness, for example, you're pretty much done. Nothing helps it work better except other T3 skills, and it didn't really matter what you picked up in T1 or T2.
