Couple of things I'd like to bring up. Not many weapons deal Cold damage, but Cold spells are popular, especially since IB's can't soak it now at all. Also, Cold is a very popular enchantment, in spite of enchantments being nerfed. That's probably what takes more credit away from it. As for pets, Earth pets take more AP to move, which just sucks. You're also very right about Advocates, but heh, they amuse me. They got screwed with Eye of Judgement and Song of the Word isn't the best AoE by a longshot. Their ability to enchant and Unholy immunity makes them worth building.
