Buy? BUY? Why buy when you can steal? When I was a child, I thought as a child does, but now that I am a man, I have put away childish things. In short, I'm not a poor, starving college student anymore, but an adult with a reasonably comfortable income. I've been both a student and poor, before, so I'm not telling people they're criminals for downloading music when they can barely afford food more glamorous than Ramen. Nor will I cite the classic "support the music" argument (though I believe in it), as I understand that it is difficult to support someone else's career when you can barely support yourself from month to month. These days, most of my reasoning is pragmatic to the point of laziness. For $1 per song, I'm assured good audio quality, accurate and consistent labeling of files, and no fear of being hassled by the RIAA over my downloads (which, in my line of work, could cost me my job, if I'm convicted of a crime). Occasional music purchases are a part of my budget, and I don't have a problem with that.
