I'm a stats nut, and after a year of looking at the stats page maybe 5 times a week, I figure:
The total population tends to drop whenever the survivor count rises above 60%
Zombie players average between 35% and 40% of the gaming population
new players are more likely to play survivors
The zombie count was lower once before, the drop in players in general is most likely caused by summer break hitting right after finals week (much the same thing happened last year).
