Dan immediately begins to hallucinate that he is spontaneously combusting. He grabs the bottle of whiskey and begins pouring it all over himself, believing it will put out the flames. Then, when he is unable to move his feet, he begins to believe that he has become a tree. He holds his arms out straight and starts asking people to douse the flames.
