But if the differences between these parallel worlds would most likely not be anything big, how would you know if you've slipped into one? Sure, there is the chance of you bumping into yourself, but if these switches happen all the time, that could also mean that the world shifts constantly for everyone. Maybe often enough for the odds of someone bumping into themselves becoming minuscule? I like these thought experiments though. They keep you on edge. If the difference is "So small you'll never notice", then it doesn't make sense to talk about it as a "real thing" in the world of science. It's like saying "What if tarot cards DO work, but in such complex and nuanced ways that you can't know how until after it happens." or, to put it in terms of the debate here "What if there ARE parallel universes out there, but we'll never ever interact with them" It makes zero sense to talk about things you can never, ever know. Look at the above argument another way: - If there's an infinite number of parallel worlds then any event, however unlikely, will happen, so long as its not against the laws of physics. - Robert Sean Leonard putting on a tutu and transporting across the universes to rape you* is an event, however unlikely. - This presumably, hasn't happened. - It must be physically impossible. * (the you that you are, not some parallel universe you. The fact that we need to draw a distinction hints, to me at least, that there's another fallacy in the many worlds interpretation.)
