I should reveal, in the interests of full disclaimer, that I'm somewhat of a walking music encyclopedia. Just about every music lover has a few bands up their sleeve that can make any other music lover stare blankly at them wondering if the band has been made up. While I don't doubt that Jorm probably knows much more about music than I do (I tend to get entrenched in the bands that I already like instead of exploring new stuff), I've never met someone who could truly claim to be a walking music encyclopedia. I've met many people who could be called Punk Rock Encyclopedias, a few Metal Encyclopedias, a few Classic Rock Encyclopedias, a few Techno Encyclopedias, etc. But no one has an all encompassing knowledge of all genres. Anyway, quick quiz... Which one of these is not the name of a real band? (don't cheat by looking the names up) 1. Jawbox 2. The Millard Posse 3. Big Boys 4. Bow Wow Wow 5. Mono

Jawbox: DC punk
Millard Posse: Never heard of 'em.
Big Boys: Punk
Bow Wow Wow: Please tell me you don't think they're obscure.
Mono: One hit wonder from england. 90s, IIRC.
(I'll confess that you managed to hit into an area that I'm strong in, btw - mid80s to mid90s alternative, punk, and new wave).

If I'm not mistaken, it'd be #2 wouldn't it? I dunno, a few years ago, I could be considered a music encyclopedia, but then I stopped caring about knowing who was who and actually listened to the music that I used to like.

hah yeah i doubt youll ever be on a trivia show and the million dollar question being to name every merzbow album in one breath.
i find metal archives a good site to find out if a new album is out and see other side projects. usually if an album is listed there, it means its on the net (leaked or bootlegged).

I try to stay updated on what the people I like to listen to are doing, and I usually keep an eye out for new music too. I get bored of what I have super fast.

Ding Ding (actually they were an awful fake band some friends of mine in high school put together and made terrible songs about minivans, Iron Chef, etc. But I don't consider them a real band) Ding (This was the one I was expecting to trip people on) I wasn't expecting to fool you, but people who know nothing about Malcolm McLauren would be completely lost. Ding. Just looked up allmusic and it turns out you're right. I was thinking of the current day post-rock band from Japan. Their sound is kind of like the child of Mogwai raised by Sonic Youth Clearly.

Jorm, this still doesn't excuse your illogical love for Imogen Heap.

i prefer dead can dance, daemonia nymphe, and arcana for the classical area.
and hair metal is stupid. it sucked in the 80's and it sucks today even more because teenie boppers think its cool to be imbeciles.

Yes, but the metalheads I hung out with used to kick the shit out of the mascara-clad goths who used to do the "looking for lost contacts" dance while listening to Dead Can Dance.

maybe in the 80's (never understood why DCD was gawth), now everyone and their mother listens to dcd, but those same metal heads would do the crotch stomp to hair metal fans, which i guess today would be considered a hate crime because only two types of people listen to hair metal...
