Attitudes arent the problem. The problem is getting survivors to ONE forum to work from, and alot of people do not have the time to go ping-ponging across forums. Ask yourself WHY IS LUE/SHACKNEWS SO WELL COORDINATED? Because the group existed as a separate forum before coming to UD, so all their members are already at the board and all the members know one another so they know timezones. So, NO, it is not our attitudes to coordination.
This situation at hand. AGAIN, i am repeating myself, but, everyone just got hit hard. 2 major population centers fell and we are still reeling to revive them and get back on our feet. We are flat footed. More blunt, we're bent over a railing with our ass exposed. Playing catch-up with our pants around our ankles by half-assedly jumping to hildebrand just because a few trenchies think they're spartans (and lets not get into how horrible that movie is either) NEVER worked. We tried it a year ago when we first went into Ridley, and we got our ass kicked, because we were constantly trying to play catch-up with a blitzkrieging enemy. EDIT: I also forgot alot of people are going off to caiger to do the flare thing which has left us exposed again. I'm irked by it, but i cant really be angry because this was totally unforeseen. By using river tactics it allows us to reform and regroup. It's also an extreme denial tactic to starve out the horde. Think of this. 375 LUE Members Average Level 5 Lets say we evacuate the suburb and there about 50 killed in the siege. Assume the 50 have body building. thats 3500 experience points there. Now divide that amongst the horde and thats 10 experience points per zombie. This keeps the horde at a low level which makes it easier for us later on.
Also, if we're going to go into who is brave and who isn't, then we've got more credibility in that department than you've got, which is why people tend to listen to an evac order.

But... i liked that movie! The rest i agree with, most survivors dont even care about the forums anyway, and the ones who does tend to be RP-ing, wiki-ing and god-knows-what at the same time.

Sure, in case of retaking places co-ordination will of course work best, but when fighting a over a mall you can never know when the zeds will strike, and therefore, because of the zeds co-ordination, it can't be defended very easily. Of course that depends a bit on how co-ordinated the zeds are. Coordination also means assigning teams to be active at all times and recognizing a pattern in zed attacks. You seem to think that in a siege situation only attackers can have coordination and tactics. Then what is it? What is what you just said if not a description of the inferior survivor attitudes to coordination? But see, if more experienced people took part in the defense and at least tried to organize it, it wouldn't be half-assed. As it stands, it's probably true that the only people there will be "trenchies thinking they're Spartans". (Which is still not as bad as it could be. I don't share the seeming near-universal hatred for trenchcoaters.) What later on? Any stand you make is going to be the exact same situation. If you don't want to do it now, why would you do it later? I can't argue with that. That's why your absolute denial of even considering defending a mall surprises me.

Well, ordinarily we probably would make an effort to defend the Mall. However, as most of our groups were very recently involved in the defense of Nichols and Blackmore, we probably don't have a lot of manpower alive, active, and ready to try to make a real stand as of yet.

No, i didn't. I just said that it would be very hard to defend against a well co-ordinated zed attack, since they all know when to strike, we would not know when, so we can only check once and a while, and if there is a break in, hope that there are some other people online, checking the fourm, and are on IRC. Unless we spy, which would never happen, ever, with suger on top.
EDIT: Or are online all the time, which i frankly find very booring, since most people get online when i go to sleep...

However, as most of our groups were very recently involved in the defense of Nichols and Blackmore, we probably don't have a lot of manpower alive, active, and ready to try to make a real stand as of yet. I guess that's true. I really shouldn't have argued as far as I have, since I don't disagree with the use of river tactics as much as I now probably seem to be, but something in Animatronic's attitude just makes me want to disagree with him just out of spite. Nichols and Blackmore really must have been a drain on manpower. We wouldn't need to be online all the time, just assign groups (preferably from multiple time zones) to be online at all times, possibly overlapping a bit. So, let's say we have 6 100-man groups, one active (and periodically refreshing) from 0:00 GMT to 4:10 GMT, another from 4:00 GMT to 8:10 GMT, another from 8:00 GMT to 12:10 GMT, then the next one from 12:00 GMT to 16:10 GMT, etc. And thus, at any given time the zeds would attack, a group of 100 survivors would be ready to reinforce the cades, alert others and in a worst-case scenario repel any intruders before they can open the way for others. Of course, this sounds easier in theory than in execution.

And i dont think it is even possible... Most people i dont think would sitt around waiting for a zed attack in a mall for 4 hours, and even if there are, i doubt there are 600 of them. Though you never know, and in theroy it might actually work... And i'm glad you said that your not against River Tactics, i was getting a bit annoyed at you to be honest...

Yeah, I was getting pretty annoying, wasn't I? And 600 people willing to do that does sound a bit farfetched, but I think it might even be possible. Of course, it was only an example off the top of my head and other arrangements requiring less people could work just as well.

Which isn't practical as someone already stated. Also, when you're reacting, all it takes is just one change up to make any pattern you've noticed not mean anything. Theres also alot of impractical things that occur. If we do an over watch, then how often do we refresh? It's more than possible to use all your hits refreshing and nothing happening.
Its not an inferior attitude, if 1) its worked before 2) impractical for reasons i said before.
I guess ill have to spell this one out. THIS IS THE SITUATION AT HAND Most of us are dead. When we go to get our revives. we're at 30HP and infected. and going straight to the mall just makes us easy targets. Also alot of us are low on supplies because of nichols & blackmore defense. So we go into a mall, under attack, wounded, with no supplies. Which means the zombies have the edge on the perpetuation of damage. ALSO there is an event going on. Alot of people are running off to go do some flare thing because these events are rarer and funner. ALSO We cant just tell everyone to drop what theyre doing to go do something else other groups have other obligations to other people if they just left because we called then they would be put in my situation trying to explain to random youth why they left. SO At this moment, we have taken the mature attitude of excepting our situation as not being a good one and that we can not go into a siege.
I explained our situation. AFTER THE FLARE OOKIE-COOKIE We can make a better stand if we are all geared up and have had time to plan out our attack.

well i hate to inturrupt this delightful conversation but seeing as this forum is posted as a place to introduce yourself, and since i could find no other way to join a respectable group(who also are into hot girls) then My name is voorbier!!! im currently stationed in hilde mall with most of my exp earned. heres my profile. www.urbandead.com/profile.cgi?id=854654from what ive seen hilde is on the verge of being attacked. although im sure this is old news to everyone here i for one am prepared to fight until hilde is taken. im aware most of the rangers were wiped while defending the other recently taken areas, so i dont expect back up. so when hilde is taken is there a ranger safehouse nearby?

hailz. You probably saw me kill the Prophet Mohammad. I assure you thats not some xenophobic, kill the arab thing. I have a theory that if I kill all the people named after Religious Leaders, I can send them all back to Pandora's Box, which would seal all evil in Malton, thus achieving total victory in Urban Dead.
But on topic. When the mall goes down look for any place caded nearby. Odin and Ratatoskr will guide you from there.
