So, my when my parents called to ask what I want for Christmas, I said an X-Box 360. Strangely, they actually followed through. Yesterday, I received not only a 360, but MK vs. DCU, and $200. I must be dying or something and only they know it.
But anyway, I don't know how to get X-Box Live working. I went out today, bought Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead, a 25 foot ethernet cable, and a router. Altogether, $194.
When I got home, I tried installing the router, but it wouldn't work. It kept saying the router wasn't found. And then I realized I could just plug the ethernet cable into the X-Box and directly into my modem. So, my connection issue has been more or less resolved, although I wasted $50 on that damned router.
But I'm still having some trouble getting X-Box Live working in the games themselves. Although I do have a name and the little avatar dude. So, anyone know what I'm doing wrong? And what's the difference between the Gold and Silver service? Is the Gold service worth paying for?

You can only play some games with a silver membership. Think "player" matches and some private ones with friends, but on the whole you can't play online with a silver membership. Gold membership allows you to play online, join "party" chats and what not. The cost of a gold membership puts people off of buying a 360, but it's really not that bad when you think it's only a few quid a month. But yeah, you'll need a gold membership to play most games online. Sorry bud

Actually, I got it working. Turns out I didn't need the router, so I returned it and used the $50 to pay for a year of Gold service =D

A lot of my friends originally had PS3's then bought an Xbox as they are the most popular console in my area. All of them have said the same thing: It is much better. They say the cost of XBL is worth it as XBL is much better than Sony's Home, and the community on the whole is better. Anything else, Sony fanboys?

I hope we're all talking about the 360, because an x-cube vanilla will only get you scorned.

Have fun with Little Big Planet and Resistance 2 Have fun with... What do you guys have? Call of duty's... Ok I guess. Wait, that's cross platform. Uh, gears is sort of fun if you're drunk, like really drunk, but you'll have way more fun jamming to a T.I. cd that only costs you $15 at that point anyway. The only good game the Xbox 360 has that isn't cross platform is Chromehounds, and nobody plays that anymore. Plus, way easier to get a mic for xbox, so therefore way more functional retards, assholes, and 8 year olds can contribute their opinion online. I can count the number of times I've been called a fag on one hand online with the PS3. I don't think there are enough hands in all of Canada to count the number of times my sexual orientation has been called into question by douchebags over xbox live. Maybe the online community isn't better for the playstation, but at least they're quieter.

I've received one insult so far on XBox Live. My online handle is HardcoreHector, a nickname I've carried for over 10 years. I don't know how or why people started calling me it, my name isn't Hector, but it stuck. Anyway, I was playing Mortal Kombat vs. DCU and went up against this guy and lost, and he sent me a message saying "u should change ur name 2 puddinhector" That's about the worst of it so far.
