Heh- have two sometimes three friends who play, most of our D&D group, as a matter of fact- and my husband was the one who conned me into joining the Rangers! "Come on!" He said. "They're really not that bad."
You ever try to explain this game to the un-initiated? "So what do you do?" "We ... uh kill zombies." "So it's a video game?" "No, no, you only get so many moves, and you have to re-take the city." "It's in a different city?" "It's in England." "There are zombies in a city in England?" "It's a pretend city." "And you're ...different people?" "... I'm just in it for the sex." "OH! Now I understand!"

I've tried to get two of my students to play. I got them both into zombie fiction, and one did his outside reading report on "World War Z." The other bought the Zombie Survival Guide based on my recommendation. Score.

I tried to explain the game to a group of linguistics students when we went out to dinner... they thought the zombie language was pretty interesting, but none of them really seemed interested in playing. Then a few weeks later one of them says to me, "You know, my wife has been playing your zombie game." Of all the people at that table, she was the one I would have least expected to play!
As far as meeting people from the internet goes... I've done it, and it is a ton of fun. Actually, I was thinking of asking whether anyone here happens to live in Southern Detroit, and if they do, whether they'd want to have an UD get-together later this month. Anyone, anyone?

I've done it, too, and it's a blast, people from the internet are SO much MORE fun to chop into little pieces. As far as getting people to join go, well, what can I say, I pump what I like about it. Factions of zombies and humans war for control of a quarantined city. A little like resident evil. PLUS, we now have roooooole playing capabilityyyyy. (That may have always been there, though).

id feel a bit weird about meeting some i dont really know, also you'd have to make up some sort of way to recognise each other. you could jump into a really awkward conversation with the wrong person otherwise
