My parents went there when I was 13 to adopt my little sister. They said how the countryside and buildings and such are beautiful but the people are still living in awful poverty.
Did you get any cool things there? My mom got $700 worth of silk dresses for $50 there, pure diamonds from South Africa for $50, a globe made of precious metals for $95, and Mao memorabilia. Each male in the family got a Mao pocket watch and my brother in law got a Mao lighter that lights up in different colors and plays the chinese national anthem. My sister had her face engraved in some kind of rock, done from hand. We got several paintings, and a bunch of jade and pearl chopsticks.

The best part of the whole damn trip was the haggling I got tons of cool crap...
fun fact: Mao killed about 30 million people through starvation and buttbuttination...that's about double the holocausts worst possible estimate...now, imagine what would happen if you waved a hitler watch around?
Further proof that it's not what you do, it's how you do it.

Stalin did the same.
But we got the Mao shit because it's great quality watches. It just so happens to have his face on it.
Cool fact. The globe I have with the precious metals, I'll take a picture of it to show y'all, has Taiwan listed as PRC territory. Kashmir is also part of China on the globe.

Me? People routinely assume I'm some mutant giant 15 year old. It's incredibly valuable in chess tourney's because my somewhat childish features and occasional enormous beard conspire to make everyone think I'm an abject moron. However, it's a detriment in speech and debate and stage skills of any kind, no one's gonna trust a debator, magician, or actor who looks like that.

Hell, i woul never have figured out that you were 15 unless you said so... Very cool to have been in China i must say, i've got a Chinese army hat with fur.. ehh, inside(?) laying at home. I occaisonaly wear it, though it seems kinda risky to do so since there is a slight chance of getting beaten up by some ingorant peasant...
