"7 zombies ahead of the pack... They aren't getting smart enough to send out scouts, are they?" Specialist says, more to himself than anyone in particular. He then grabs ValJohn and begins dragging him out from behind the bar.
"Geez, does this guy eat on the job or something? Hey Spinbad, can ya give me a hand w/ ValJohn here?"

"Sure."
Spinbad helps Specialist carry ValJohn upstairs.
"Damn...he's heavy...maybe he should work on that gut of his..."

They get to the gap in the stairs. After some tricky maneuvering, they manage to get him safely across the gap and to the upper level.
"Whew... Now back down, to deal w/ anyone who tries to break in."

Melody settles herself in the booth nearest the bar, shaking her head and unholstering her handgun. "Let 'em try to get in today, that door isn't going to budge. Best thing to do might be to pick them off through the windows upstairs, or through the grating."
She gives the two defenders a grateful smile, then turns to Priz. "I'd be glad for a bartender, once the hordes find a mall to chew on; it's taking the owner longer and longer to wake up, and I can't do everything."
"I dunno that we can technically call seven deaders a horde. What is that, like, a hordette?" She gives a pondering look to the female zed in the cage. "Um ... you don't suppose they keep hittin' us because of her, do you?"

Specialist gives his shoulders a shrug. "No ammo, unfortunately." This is soon rectified, however, and Specialist replies "Thanks" as he catches the supplies.
"Well, if the DJ's records here are correct, I wouldn't be surprised. Isn't she some sort of 'horde leader' herself?"
Specialist's mobile phone buzzes in his pocket. He pulls it out and fires off a quick text message. It buzzes again, and he grins as he reads the second message and puts it away.
"Well, I've got some good news--most of the big horde Spinbad saw is going to pass us by, hopefully; they seem to be heading down a different street or something. That leaves us to deal with the seven there. I'd stay on my toes just in case, though."

Spinbad ruffles through his case for a small map. He finds it.
"Ah-ha! This map shows the location to where I buried those cases with mines. There's a case out back. I unbury it and set up the mines around the building."
He grabs the shovel and heads out back. 15 minutes later, he comes back in.
"All mines in that case have been placed around the building. Let's see those 7 get in here now. And maybe we should lose that zed. It keeps on groani-"
Explosions comes from outside.
"Well...those 7 came here fast...must be because of her..."
He grabs a few grenades from his case.
"Anyone who wants to have fun throwing grenades at those zeds, just grab some grenades from my case and come up to the roof."
Spinbad heads up to the roof.

Priz watches the proceedings from behind the bar with mild amusment. Grenades and landmines? Heh.
Deciding not to point out again how ineffectiual these sorts of things are, he pours himself a martini, and takes a slow sip of it.
"So if she's the cause of all the trouble, why don't we just throw her outside?" he says to noone in particular, while pulling out a handgun.

Specialist, being one of the smarter ones and having found a copy of the Zombie Survival Guide a few months back, also decides to prudently save the hand grenades for another time and reloads his pistol and shotgun. He then heads up to join Spinbad.
"Fine by me," Specialist tells Priz as he walks up the stairs.

"Don't see any reason to kill 'em twice ... plus, do mines and things even kill them? I thought you needed a shot to the head."
Melody slips out of her booth, ambles over to the bar. "I guess we could turn her loose, but ... how would they even know she's in here in the first place? She hardly ever does that moany thing anymore ... I think ValJohn mighta pulled her tongue out one particularly slow day."
She watches the zombie shuffle from foot to foot inside the cage.
"I shoulda sold her to Leon."

There are explosions outside.
Spinbad shouts, "Woohoo! Watching these zeds blow to bits is fun! Hey! We're gonna need more mines soon! There's a case buried 3 blocks to the south by that monument! Look for a red 'X' spray painted on the ground! That's where I buried it!"
"Klink", the DJ pulls the ring from another grenade. He throws it at what's left of the zeds.
"Eat dirt, suckas! Hey, wait a minute...what's this?"
He takes out his binoculars.
"That bigger horde just went around a block...now it's coming towards us...Shit...It's an ambush...They should be here in...I'd say about half an hour..."
The DJ runs back down and grabs a shovel.
"We're gonna need more mines for this stuff! And I could use help unburying those cases with mines! I'll tackle the one 3 blocks south! Someone take care of the one 2 blocks southwest at the park! As usual...Look for a red 'X' on the ground!"
He runs out of the bar.

"I got the mine situarion coverd, I have 13 Claymore Anti-Personel mines." He turns to Melody. "Why's the DJ running off when I have enough mutions to blow a hole in caiger? This is what you guys get when you don't listen to my warning of a Mall Horde." Vito casually blows a couple zeds away with his .50. He sets up a couple mined and gets back to tinkering.

Spinbad comes in nearly worn out.
"Mines placed, but that was only one case.."
The DJ looks around the room.
"It seems nobody bother to get that case in the park..."
He looks at the mini map of his.
"Lets see...that's 2 case of mines used, there's about...187 more. Well...That should be good. Now if I can find a way to transport most of them here in one day..."
Explosions come from outside.
"Uh...too late for that..."
He grabs 2 pistols, a shotgun, and his only fire ax from his case. He then proceeds to stuff his pocket with shells, clips, and 5 grenades. He also grabs a radio from his case.
"If you need me, either text my phone, head up to the roof, or use that transmitter. Don't worry. The radios and the transmitter are on the same frequency."
The DJ heads up to the roof.

"You know, really, I was hopin' he'd play some music or something. But this defend the place thing is nice, too." She shakes her head, chuckling, and moves over to check the reinforced door. "You think they could get up a ramp? I'm thinking, instead of relying on rope ladders and bridges, if we made a steep ramp with small footholds up to the first story windows, we should be pretty safe."
Aiming out a small gap made just for that purpose, she squeezes the trigger carefully and drops one of the deaders nearest the door.
"Soeakin' of barricades, anyone know what happened to Murray? He never did bring back his room key."

From the upper level you can hear a series of pistol shots. The fire is slow and methodical, a sign that the shooter is picking his targets carefully and not simply popping them off like a madman. After each sixth round there is a slightly longer pause, then back to the pop-pop-pop rhythm that you could compose music to.
Eventually the firing stops, and Specialist comes downstairs just in time to catch a bit of what Melody is saying.
"Make the ramp too shallow, though, and you might as well put a welcome mat at the base and someone handing out brains just inside."
He then roots around in his pack to find more pistol ammo, but quickly remembers that he's still out, so he closes it back up again.
"You'd think those noobs would learn not to use grenades someday--the zed's bodies just soak up the shrapnel like a sponge in water, unless you get a lucky frag into the skull, and that's a long-shot gamble.
"Well, I'm off to search the PD," Specialist adds, then heads back upstairs and takes a running leap to the next building.

"I don't see what we'd have to lose..." Priz says, putting a round into the head of the zombie dancer. "Anyone feel like throwing he outside?"
Looking at Melody, he continues. "A ramp seems a little un-nessicary. In my opinion, it would be alot safer if we built a removable bridge between here and the building beside us, and put a ramp up to that building. That way, we could get large amounts of supplies in and out, and just pull in the bridge when we don't need it."
